Volume Reference - Vol 1/Ch 5/ Bible lesson # 3

| We made these little story boxes to go
with the Bible lesson. First I drew pictures on the blackboard as I
talked about the points of God's revealed plan (a tree with fruit, a
crown, a manger, a cross, a tomb and an idea of heaven). Next to each
picture (as i talked about the sequence) I drew the particular item that
we were going to use to represent or symbolise next to the original
picture (A red ribbon for the fruit or "sin", a craft jewel for the
crown, a tiny bead star for the baby Jesus, a tiny cross I made from a
pipe cleaner, a pasta shell for the empty tomb and a head of lavender
flower for Heaven). After that we read through the bible verses which I
had compiled from the computer onto 1 page. I had printed out onto stiff
paper a pattern for "pyramid boxes" from this site
http://mssscrafts.com/crafts/storybox/ I was working with the 4 eldest (8,6,5 and 3). The older 2 cut out their own boxes and I did the cutting for the younger 2. I folded the edges, etc for the 3 year old but the others did their own. Then I punched the holes for the tops of the pyramid folds for all of them. They each drew colours inside to represent heaven. With just sticky tape over the tops of the items (you could glue if you wanted to) we stuck the symbols on one at a time starting from the jewel. Then we popped the lavender inside "Heaven" , threaded the curling ribbon through the holes at the top and tied it all up with a bow. When I get the kids to tell me the story back tomorrow as review, they'll work from the top down (having to undo the red ribbon or "sin" first before they can get to Heaven)! Hope this helps someone.
